Apple has released an updated version of iOS 17.6.1, just a week and a half after the original iOS 17.6.1 update. The new build, numbered 21G101, is available for download on eligible iPhones and iPads by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
Bug fix details
This update specifically addresses a bug related to Advanced Data Protection, which impacted a small number of users. Previously, some users encountered issues when trying to enable or disable Advanced Data Protection. Those attempting to turn it on received an error, and it was clear the feature wasn’t active. Conversely, users who tried to turn it off saw it disabled in the interface, but the protection remained active for iCloud data.
Update improvements
With this re-released version of iOS 17.6.1, Apple has fixed both of these issues. Users who had trouble disabling Advanced Data Protection will now receive a notification prompting them to confirm their decision after installing the update. Apple assures that the few users affected by this bug had an expected or higher level of security, even when the feature didn’t turn off as expected.
