Facebook Users React to Accidental Icon Change

Facebook users noticed a sudden change in the app’s iPhone icon, which shifted to a new black and blue design. However, this was not an intentional rebrand but a bug, and Facebook is already fixing it.

According to a report from Business Insider, the unexpected icon change was due to a “technical issue,” not a planned redesign. Meta communications manager Dave Arnold confirmed, “This was caused by a technical issue and has been resolved. People will see the fix when they update their app.”

The incorrect icon was a big change from Facebook’s classic blue and white look. Instead of the usual blue background with a white icon, users saw a black background with a blue icon, which caused some confusion and frustration.

Interestingly, this bug affected both iOS 17 and iOS 18 users. While iOS 18 does include new icon theming options, including a dark mode for Home Screen icons, the bug also impacted those using the older iOS 17. Some iOS 18 users also noticed a version of the Facebook icon with a white background and blue logo.

Facebook has now released an update to fix the icon, and users can download the corrected version from the App Store. With the fix in place, users can enjoy their long weekend without any further icon surprises.
