Google Meet Introduces Gemini AI for Automated Meeting Notes

Google Meet is rolling out a new AI tool called “Take Notes for Me.” This feature uses Gemini AI to create summaries of key points during video calls, rather than offering word-by-word transcriptions. The AI-generated notes will be saved in a Google Doc, which appears in the meeting owner’s Google Drive. After the call, the document can be automatically sent to attendees or added to the calendar event. If enabled, the document will also include links to the meeting recording and transcript.

This feature is initially available to Google Workspace customers with the Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education Premium, and AI Meetings & Messaging add-ons. Currently, it supports only English language and is limited to meetings on computers or laptops.

Google has been integrating generative AI into more services since announcing its plans last year. Gemini AI is becoming a key part of Android and Workspace apps. However, the effectiveness of these features depends on how accurately the AI performs. Concerns about AI missteps, like Google’s infamous “AI Overviews,” continue to shadow these developments.
