GoPro has announced two new action cameras, the GoPro Hero 13 Black and a smaller model called the Hero. Both cameras are available for preorder now, with the Hero 13 Black releasing on September 10th and the Hero on September 22nd.
New Features in Hero 13 Black
The Hero 13 Black introduces several new features. It has magnetic mounting and charging, three new lenses, and a redesigned battery with a 10% higher capacity. The camera also includes in-camera noise reduction and can record HLG HDR video and 10-bit video in G-Log. A new burst slo-mo mode is available, allowing 720p video recording at up to 400 frames per second, 900p at 360fps, and 5.3K at 120fps. Additionally, the camera now supports Wi-Fi 6, offering up to 40% faster content transfer speeds.
Though many of the specs remain the same as the previous Hero 12 Black model, such as the 8:7 sensor, the Hero 13 Black does offer these notable upgrades.
New Lenses for Hero 13 Black
GoPro is also releasing a new set of HB-Series lenses to complement the Hero 13 Black. These include the Ultra Wide Lens Mod, which captures a 177-degree field of view with a 1:1 aspect ratio, and the Macro Lens Mod, designed for close-up shots but with a minimum focus distance of 4.3 inches. Additionally, an Anamorphic Lens Mod will be available next year, offering a 21:9 aspect ratio and movie-style lens flaring.
Smaller, More Compact Hero Camera
GoPro’s new Hero camera is significantly smaller and lighter than the Hero 13 Black. It’s 35% smaller and 46% lighter, weighing just 86 grams. The built-in battery can last up to 155 minutes when recording 1080p video at 30fps. The Hero also supports 4K video at 30fps and 2.7K slow-motion captures at 60fps.
